G`day folks Have any of you used the electric power steering from a corsa/barina on a MKII? If so do you have any advice or build pics? Cheers Troppo

I`ll have a look around the wreckers and see what i can find, i just dont need the hassle of the electronics and it seems that thats needed to make them work

I think you will need an electronic box to make any of the electric steering columns work.

guess I will find out in a few weeks when mine turns up! Those 4.1's are heavy donks, especially with an iron head! PS box might get diverted from the Mk1.......

Just thinking through the power steering options. Surely the electronic assistance relies on purely assistant the shaft to turn easier......leaving the same no of turns from lock to lock.......which is one of the main reasons to switch to a proper oil assisted box. So that you don't have to turn the wheel a dozen times to steer the van. Just a thought.

Yes of course, the electronic assist still uses the same steering box, so the same number of turns lock to lock (about 5.5 in a Transit?) I think the Mk3 PS box is about 3.5 turns.
But I am not sure that all people are necessarily after a quicker steering though, just a system that would make parking a bit easier?

Apparently Fiat's also use an electronic PS system similar to the MG, Corsa/ Barina etc which can be used, TidyTom has a proper transit PS box for sale on here, shipping might be a bit of a dear do though.
As far as i know all the electronic systems need a seperate box to fool the system into life, most just give you a trimmer to adjust the level of assistance required but a few you can add on speed sensors etc so you don't get ultra light steering once you are rolling. I had a Corsa Van as my work van prior to the transit and it is a good system as standard, the only fault i found was on a mates van and that was due to lack of maintenence by a previous owner.
