That could be what im looking for as I want to build a period looking recovery truck to take to shows and at a later date upgrade the engine to a 2.5 di and 5 speed gearbox. Do you know if its a long wheel base chassi? Would you register it on to English plates?

Twin wheel will be LWB mate. Remember in the 70s and 80s there was $WB, LWB and XLWB. MK1s came in $WB and LWB from the factory with XLWB being extended on license

Thanks Fred, so would the mk1 XLWB be the equivalent of to the later mk3 or 4 LWB pick ups ? Any idea how difficult it is to get an imported mk1 registered on to English plates?

It might be simple or it might not - it depends on what paperwork it comes with from Malta, some vans were registered and used here before being exported - it may still be on the DVLA system if that is the case. In any case make sure the chassis number is correct and not altered and tallies with what the paperwork says - maybe checked what format the chassis number should look like for the build date. Not casting any doubts on this seller but some vans are blatent ringers Mk2 with mk1 wings on a 68 plate for example.

Mk1 LWB is the same as Mk2, 3 and 4 in length.

Problem is, many people call the XLWB LWB. If we all stuck to what Ford call em there would be less confusion!

I dont see any issues in whats been posted, its only advice. Does anyone know what paper work should come with an import, Although im thinking its got to be easier to wait for victor to get this truck here and take a look at that.

Pretty neat watching you guys banter back and forth about the pros and cons of certain issues with titling and registration. We have the same thing here in the U.S. You do have to watch for changed registration numbers but usually on serious collectibles. However in the end most sellers are above board. Fortunately we can bring some pretty wonky crap into this country as long as we fix it. Rarely does a car or truck get so bad that it can't be registered. Your MOT seems pretty stiff. And final. Hopefully soon I'll have the funds pulled together to pull away one of your MK 1 Transit chassis cabs to the States here in Texas. I'll probably bring it into my original home state of Virginia at the port of Portsmouth or Norfolk and then ship it out to Houston. Still trying to find out if I can bring it to the port in Houston. Thanks for letting me interrupt your discussion.
