I have got a 1981 mk2 transit recovery truck. I have a problem with the n/s/f indicator not working there is no live feed to the plug on the inside of the wing that the indicator connects to. the wiring loom up to the bulk head looks ok. does anyone know where it gets the live feed from inside the cab?

get a wiring diagram and chase it, check that you have power at the firewall in the engine bay and if not go inside. Check out the indicator stalk assembly, make sure you have power there and then chase it towards the firewall.

Welcome! It's most likely the bulb holder. The two wires in the back are insulated with rubber and it perishes over time. Best replacement is the Mk3 if you can get em. The wires are encased in solid plastic, and fit into the light unit fine. It's the bulb holder only on the Mk3, so cut the old one off and use spade connectors.

How weird. My 85 swb has exactly the same fault,NSF too. No power to the bulb

I have not got a wiring diagram for it, was hoping someone on here might have one and be able to tell me. The rear indicator works ok, it is not the bulb holder, as there is no live feed to multiplug on the inside of the wing that plugs into the wire that goes to the bulb holder. The wiring under the bonnet all looks ok, I just need to know where it picks up the live feed from inside the cab so I can trace it backwards

The feed comes from the indicator switch via the hazard switch. It's usually the hazard switch at fault.

If the rear indicator works, it's not likely to be the switch. Have you tried the bulb from the other side in the holder?

As I said, is not the bulb or bulb holder as there is no live feed going to the mutliplug before that. Is it at the hazard light switch that separates the feed from front to rear?

To be fair, electrics aren't my strong point, but this indicator fault is a common one. I can't work out where this multi plug is. Common sense tells me that if only one indicator is out, it's more likely to be a localised fault. The hazard rocker switch and flasher unit operates all of the indicators, and the switch is a permanent live. Do all of the other indicators flash normally when you flick the hazard switch?

The rear left indicator flashes fast. The right front and rear flashes normal. The bulb holder comes with a short length of wire which goes through the inner wing and plugs into the wiring loom. There is no live at this point.

You could try swapping over the bulb holders. They aren't handed. The faster flash on the rear is due to the bulb out. I am pretty sure they are on the same circuit as there's only one indicator fuse.

If there is no live feed coming out of the wiring loom, it don't matter what bulb holder you put there, it will still not work

If you are putting a Meyer in the end of the plug its probably corroded inside. I had the same issue I cut the plug off and fitted a modeo plug

NO, The bulb holder unplugs from the wiring loom. There is no live feed at the wiring loom under the bonnet

Is there anyone on here that has a wiring diagram for the light circuit on a 1981 mk2 transit?
