Lovely...I've Brillo padded mine a couple of times, be interested to know what polish and what results? Brillos (cheap supermarket versions) work really well on the Ali bits like windows too

My God! I`ve never seen a thermostat housing that bad before, makes me wonder what caused it in the first place

With the housing like that what was the radiator like?

I changed the radiator as a better one than the one that was on came with the van it was mostly bits of ali from the water pump housing I gave it all a good flush as you would expect . I still haven't tried the polish on the roof I shall report back when I have. I had a play around with the jigsaw of wood bits yesterday there's a large bit missing from up the side, also had a mock up with he panels as well BTW the engine link in the above post should work now.

Progress has been slow with this since the dark nights. I've freed the clutch but still haven't managed to get it running 100% the timing has been checked and it pressure tests OK nor it smoke

Do you mean it smokes from the exhaust while running? It could well be that given a decent run it will settle down, I think at that year the emissions test is just for visible smoke so nothing to worry about as long as they can still see out of the MOT bay when you drive in Has it still got any old fuel in it? That might not be helping matters. Keep on with it.

Nice to hear from you again! DR's right. Smoke test is visual so don't worry.

Thanks for the replies I managed a hour or so this afternoon and even braved some snow!
I didn't write that last post very well did I ;-) it doesn't smoke at all I've checked the valve clearances and one was a little tight but nothing to write home about (this is on the pot in question) so what I've done is set them on the slack side, this seems to of made a little difference so yes as it's nearly there I'm going to leave it at it is and see what happens when it's taken for a run.
I've also now got the back frame solid and just about ready for assembly so fingers crossed in the next few weeks I'll have a smile on my face :-)
