I'm going to give Firevan an oil change soon (already serviced everything else), it's not been done since it left Germany in December 2013 (it's done less than 1000 miles in the last 2 years). But it looks like it has the wrong oil filter fitted. According to Burtons it should have a smaller EFL90 oil filter, but it actually has and EFL600 fitted which is for a 1.6/1.7 zetec lump. Is there any reason to fit this larger filter again (better oil flow or filtration) or is it they've simply fitted the wrong one, or just fitted the closest to what they could get? It's an I assume standard 1978 Pinto (everything is matching numbers)? This is the oil filter currently fitted:

If i check the numbers mine comes up as having the small filter as well, it had the large one on it when i got it that fits just about everything of that era including other pinto powered stuff. I've used both now and it makes no difference to oil pressure. I've got a large filter on at the moment as bigger is always better right? The only thing I could think of was that the official service interval on the van might be shorter so it only needed a small filter?

....or it was the only one they could get hold of for the pinto.

I don't think it would have been down to service intervals (although it might be) it's only done 17k miles in 37 years!
I'm thinking Fred might have hit the nail in that it was the only one they could easily get.
At least the bigger one is easy to get, I think I'll stick with whats on there.

Just looked at the pictures on a proper computer, the filter on mine is much bigger in diameter than that one you have on presently. Will get a cross reference number for it when I get a chance this weekend.

Perhaps as it's design for a modern Zetec it gives better filtration?
But you are correct, the EFL90 is much wider than the one on mine.
