Hello again to the people who live inside my computer! After a family summer holiday this year it's become apparent my mk2 isn't really big enough for 2 adults, a child, and all the luggage that goes with that. It's only going to get worse too with bikes etc in coming years as well as the Mrs wanting another dog. I think I have to look for a bigger camper. I have to give thought that although I currently do all the driving that will not always be the case, so I even have to consider something newer that Mrs Phorbiuz can cope with. However, for the time being I'd still prefer a bigger coach built mk2. It is essential it's a good good one as I don't have time to do a resto again, nor lots of mechanical work, nor chasing damp, and upgrades like a 5 spd box, hook up etc etc would be good. This doesn't come cheap though. Although I know my mk2 pop top will sell well I also know it will not get enough for what we'll probably need. In the coming months if anyone sees anything suitable based on the mk2 let me know. TBH I'm even considering keeping my pop top for festivals but that would mean twice the storage fees, insurance, and road tax. Thanks.

Yeah, maybe a CI. There was a coach built one I posted about recently with a mk1 reg but mk2 body, but the owner says its no longer for sale.
A trailer would help with storage but one issue is that Mrs P sleeps with our boy in the double bed inside, I sleep in the awning. It does have roll out hammock style beds in the pop top but he doesn't like them being only 3. By the time he does like them I fear he'll be too big to actually use them, but equally I guarantee he'll want his own bed at some point. This is the way I'll be going though if I don't find something.
Re caravan, I'd also have to buy a tow car as my mk2 is slow enough on decent hills already, especially when you go Devon/Cornwall way. A more likely option is a trailer tent which I already have for behind my Cortina, but I'd prefer us all to be sleeping in the same space.
The sensible option is the bigger camper van, but some of you who saw the work I put into my AutoSleeper to get it nice will understand I equally don't want to sell.
Another couple of lottery tickets this week I think.....

Your Mk2 shouldn't be that slow. It's a SWB so doesn't have that much to pull. If you put tow bar on it and towed the trailer tent, that shouldn't be too bad and you could sleep in the van.

Honestly it shouldn't be that slow, I took an old 70's 5 berth Monza down to Lands End from Derbyshire with a 1/2 million mile 1.6D Cavalier! They only had about 60bhp when they were new on a good day!
My LWB as apparently used to tow a big twin axle van about by the last owner, I've towed with it but only plant trailers and it really made no difference to the lack of performance

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the van is stupidly slow as it's happy to sit at 70 on the motorway no problem. When it gets to hills I do have to flick OD off or drop down a gear, nothing major or unexpected, but I think if there's a ton or more of caravan being towed too it will certainly struggle with some places in the Lakes or Devon and Cornwall. I think any caravan of a decent 4 berth size is going to be more than a ton nowadays TBH. Plus, if we're all living in the caravan (or trailer tent) then I may as well tow it with the car which would make trips to town etc easier and a caravan will cost me the same to store as another van.
If nothing comes up the trailer route is my best option. It will fit the awning, bikes, etc in but in a couple of years I'll still possibly have the issue he'll want his own bed. That's why I was thinking a coach built with the bed above the cab and a bed from the seats might be the way forward.
I'm not going to make a rash call on this - I have a bloody nice camper now. Just saying if people hear of anything let me know.
Ta.

The link I put up for a two berth is half a tonne. Sleep in one, eat in the other? Take kitchen out of caravan , fit extra bed?
You got your o'd box then? Must be a nice van now, it as pretty immaculate when I saw it

I hear what you're saying the bed above the cab can be pretty claustrophobic and sleeping in the same area is always a problem when they get to young adults...personally I'm thinking of taking a good tent or driveaway along, at least there is a choice then. But space for the toys is always an issue, still haven't solved the kayaks!
