Whilst searching around trying to source a diesel front end I managed to get in touch with a guy called Rocky whom some of you might know; he had brought over a York diesel mk1 from France that was completely rusted out on one side but had a mint interior that he was needing for his pickup.
We struck a deal and I made the 5 and half hour round trip to near Great Yarmouth from Croydon London and back.
Put a petrol generator, grinder and some hand tools in the motor and away we went, he had a few bits left over from his project that I needed. So I managed to pickup a couple of custom badges for the wings, some better headlight cowls, complete set of sealed beams with all the original grommets and seals and a complete diesel front end including the valance section that goes beneath the grill behind the bumper.
On the return trip I picked up another grill and bonnet from a barn find advertised on eBay. I've sent them all over to JLN sandblasting to be media blasted and zinc phosphate treated to kill any remains of rust and I'll pick the best of the sets when they come back.

Is that where you guys are from? I wouldn't usually contemplate driving that far but some parts/panels are hard to come by.
Does anyone know if the front doors had any drainage holes originally, my ones are completely rotten out at the bottom. I'm not sure if it's better to waxoil the internals or make holes to release any water?

Drilling weeper holes would my preference but my doors aren't good...I'm in Maldon and Muttley is in Surrey, it's a royal battle to meet puks been recovered twice on the way home and caught alight once...traffic didnt work well

That's not the kind of road trip adventure you need, hope the fire wasn't disastrous. We had a fire with this one whilst in the garage, backfired through the carb and caught alight. Not too keen on this V4 engine, needs a bit of work and I'm not overly bothered about keeping it original under the bonnet.

Aha! Another replacement engine thread!! I like the idea of Ralphies Isuzu personally...naw the fire was ok, the exhaust shearing 2 minutes after and having a single pipe from the dartford to maldon was more annoying

Drainage holes it is then, the doors are both completely shot at the bottoms so no need to drill em just yet! The panels I got have been blasted and treated and I'm left with these; This is the later diesel grill from the York engine 1972 onwards, it's got more grill slots and the ford letters are smaller. This is the one I think I'm going with, as far as I know it's from the Perkins diesels up to 1972. I just prefer the way the panel is recessed at the top for the larger Ford lettering. Both will need some altering to fit as they are from left hand drive models where the bonnet release is from the other side. Maybe they can be altered or otherwise the other petrol grill may be cut up to supply the catch for the diesel frontage. With my van being from 1972 I wonder if it was made at Langley or Southampton, anyone know how to find out?

Maybe when we get to that stage, probably be a petrol modern engine though; something with injection. Like a Zetec or something similar. You mentioned Ralph and i gotta say he's a handy man to know. Messaged him about some seals and bits i need and i think he's got em, which im glad about. I bet you got some looks driving a MK1 with no exhaust all the way from dartford.
