Is the box under dash (centre) the heater? The whole van looks awesome

Thanks, yes, thats the heater,ex fire vans were usual the most basic factory model(minimum options),so they usually had no glovebox lid,or the centre panel which on optioned up ones would cover heater box, same with the grey door shuts/interior,they were supplied to conversion companies grey(cheapest color bulk ordered) then painted red by conversion company.

Lovely van.
All SVO Transits were delivered Cargo Grey, it was the standard undercoat colour. The vans were then painted the right colour by the conversion companies.
By the 80s they'd stopped using Cargo grey and they were white instead.

Some things like twin batteries are SVO. That and flexi wheel arches are all our bullion van left Ford as SVO with.

Thanks for info Fred, didnt realize little things made an SVO. Wonder how long before its mentioned in "For Sale"ads as another price bump on German Fire Vans? (personaly feel it would be like adding "Supplied In a Unique shade of black!"to a Model T ad)

If you look at the VIN plate it'll say SVO somewhere on it. It does on mine.

Just checked vin plate, mine hasnt got SVO stamped on it,maybe its cos its an early mk1?,there 10 years, one facelift,1 model change, numerous mechanical changes between the two vans, both are bachert conversions. It has got a zip in the headlining and a spot welded bracket for siren relay on o/s inner wing( in engine bay),which are later model(ie mk2) SVO optons. Ive seen on ebay gmbh conversions from around 76 with red interiors so maybe they used what was avaliable at the time, also had custom interior trim.(red interior paint should mean not SVO?) Got all original build sheet from Bachert with mine, even down to VW guarantee for"type 121"pump motor( probabily why there not usually still in vans, sell the pump, pay for the van!). Really need to see a German market Transit sales brochure/SVO list for 1968 vans,I know they changed head design in august 67,hence blue engine to denote new version in mine( its may 68),all no.s match from chassis/engine,plate and all paperwork, codes are right for engine variant etc.but no SVO on vin
