A mate of mine who is a diesel fitter, was telling me a tale about an old lad who used to work at his place, He was telling him about an automatic diesel mk1 he used to drive back in the early 70s, and how he used to have to go to a quarry quite regular to fix some machines, Well with the weight of his toolbox, the steep incline, and no power, the transit couldn t make it back out of the quarry on its own. So every time he went, he would have to get the bulldozer or whatever he was fixing to pull him out, most times it was a case of fix it or you ain t going no where !

The saying "it wouldn t pull you out of bed" applies here,
I bet they were painful to drive, oh no a hill !
Although i had a smiley front that hated hills so its in the genes,

Ah yes, the Perky and auto box , I have to say that's the biggest feck up ever with a commercial drivetrain. I have driven a few and they left me frustrated to say the least
