Firstly a big Hello to everyone here, Newby here to gain advice and to give any back if i can.
On the 24/06/17 the bidding war was in progress on ebay for a Ford Transit 1978 MK2 CI Travel home (Motorhome).
I set myself a limit but went over that withing days, i mean were talking Big money here.
Last minute i sat at work and decided to up the stakes by a further 20 qid, and yes i WON the auction.
I havent been excited like that moment in years even around the wife if you get my drift.
But yes i won the van for a staggering £680 wow, yes WOW. i thought this would have sold for lots more.
My Next task was to arrange payment, and collection of my new found girl and she was soon coming home after few let downs and negotiating with recovery Guys.
She arrived and it looked so big on the truck outside the house and God knows what the neighbours thought but my blinkers were on and i didnt care as all i could see was good patential. She did start and drive and was soon on the driveway.
The following day work commences and it was inevitable the back end was totally rotten and had to be removed, you have to take into account here i brought the van without even looking at her but my Faith kitched in and knew she was for me. First glances here. OOPs it seems i cant upload images as furum exceeded space or something.
Ok so the back end was completely rotten in fact few slugs between soggy woodwork ect and had to remove the whole lot including the wooden platform down to chassis. this was a good thing really as chassis exposed means all work can be completed with ease.
This only means that she cannot be put back to her original state on rebuild and i know how you guys love originality.
The chassis from the cab back is fantastic and in fact needs no work what so ever, and soon was sand blasted and acid treated and redy for etch primer and chassis black paint.
The front however is a little more complicated and chassis legs coroded along with crossmember and couple floor pans but no problems.
Bare in mind i have owned my babe for 3 weeks and progressing well.
Front end has been stripped, one chassis leg (with spring hanger) fabricated and ready to be welded, it took one day to fabricate just the one with some careful thinking as i wanted this seam welded, bolted with bolts in place, puddle welded and painted inside out.
All patterns were made to copy the one leg for the other side as both need replacing, i am in the process of forming the crossmember from some 18gauge as didnt want to hand out the £160 someone asked for replacement panel.
I have buggered about with a project for years and wondered if i was capable of such a big job, but in all it has given me a burst of energy which i love and always had a passion for.
apologies for the long winded intro but need to get this of my chest, updates as and when and if anyone can advise on uploading photos please do so.
