We have had our 1977 Mk 1 camper since 1992. I suppose we have spent much on it over the years but it is worth it. It has a 2 litre V4 with just over 50k on the clock and a special Autohomes body, coach built. My last restoration project was the cooker hood! Before that it was a new windscreen rubber and refurbished rear springs. Now I have another problem - see the technical section.
We love it and will never part with it. Back in 1992 no one was interested in a Mk 1 Transit ("not staying here long are you?) but now everyone wants it!
Best wishes

Pleased to send pics when I can work out how to!
I have just had it reclassified as Historic so as to avoid paying for car tax - a big relief as the annual mileage is low. But I won't avoid the MOT as it is madness not to particularly with a vehicle this size and difficult to inspect underneath.
Our van has a special body made by an employee of Autohomes based on a new Mk 1 chassis. He thought he could improve on the official design. He made 3 or 4 on various chassis. We think he succeeded.
Our Mk 1 is a late model with Mk 2 improvements as standard such as front disc brakes and a servo. Much appreciated.
Kind regards
John B
