Hello Guys!
Yes the transit MK1 was popular in the late 60's and 70's. Most of the MK1s landed up in junkyards. Most of them are non-transferable as the owners are no longer around. I was lucky to find this one. Even though its just a rusty shell (as it came without engine, gearbox nor seats), it has got valid papers and I was able to make the ownership transfer.

This is how it look now. I had done the welding works and painted it, got rid of all the rusts. Unfortunately I had to leave it baking in the sun as I was stuck to what engine I can put in there. As the van was registered with a 1.6 petrol engine, I am allowed to install an engine with 25% bigger capacity (petrol or diesel). But it must be either Ford or Mazda engine to get it approved by the road transport authority. As I am a complete noob I dont know what kind of engine will fit in this van. And I am having a hard time finding a workshop that will want to take on the project from where it is now. Most of them want me to get the engine, gearbox and wiring set for them and they will install it for me Does anyone here know if a Mazda F8 (12valve engine) will fit in this van? I found this engine complete with gearbox and wiring set. But im afraid to buy it as im not sure if it will fit? Thank you!

who needs a paint baking oven when you live in Malaysia! Seriously though, I don't know of anyone who has tried to fit in of those Mazda engines. So you might need to take a tape measure and ruler, and measure the engine before you buy it. The engine bay of the Mk1 is very short, as it was originally designed for a V4 engine. Most 4 cylinder engines are very tight in there, and some will need the bulkhead cutting. I have a 5 litre V8 in mine, but some serious cutting was required!

Exactly my thoughts when I decided not to buy the engine yet before checking with someone who knows the MK1 well. Ya the engine bay look very short. I will take your advice to measure it. The problem here is that I have limited engine makes and models (Mazda or Ford) that Im allowed to install and also Im only allowed to a maximum 2.0 engine capacity. Ford engines however is very hard to find here!
