Hi all,
Was a lurker here some time ago, but drifted off as bike projects took priority over the van. But now I'm back again, and making good headway with my Mk1 Transit.
I picked it up a few years ago with a badly done v8 conversion, albeit in a running condition. Since then I've completely pulled it down and am going for a proper mod permit for the conversion. I've ground off the old gearbox and engine mounts they'd installed and have fabricated bolt in cross members to support the drive line instead. Provision is being made for a 100 amp alternator and air con system. The steering column is being replaced with a Flaming Rivers collapsible unit with column shift auto. The handbrake is being converted to a footbrake from Grand Cherokee to clean up the cab floor. Seats are being swapped with HJ Monaro items (they came at a popular price and hold a sentimental value to me). An extra fuel tank and lift pump with up the fuel capacity to 130 litres.
Right now I'm waiting for a rear sump and extended pickup to arrive so I can fit the engine for the last time, mount the box and get the propshaft cut down to length to mate to an LSD converted diff I pulled from another Mk1 that had been rolled several times.
I'm also trying to find a decent set of front wings. The ones on it are badly rotted inside with the headlight tubes being completely rotted away as well. I see theres GRP ones around but previous experience with GRP parts is they don't fit or look right. If anyone knows where I could find some steel ones, I'd be very grateful.
Anyway, I look forward to being a regular around here again. I'll post up some progress pics next week.
Cheers!
