A quick update: A flying visit to my parents got my dad out of retirement to do a bit of tidying up on the van whilst I sorted the LPG Back doors - both were as bad as each other New section put into the bottom of each Rust windows and big dints begone! Had actually bought a new wing to replace this one but it was easier to repair the original Yep the battery is still connected but it was gas welded not mig - didn't think about any venting gas at the time.... And the bottom 3" of the drivers door got replaced as well. Only got a finished picture of this one Pictures of the gas set up to follow but a quick leak test resulted in a clean bill of health after tightening one union so filled up with 144L of finest LPG, have done 70 miles testing followed by the big trip back down south, somewhere on the M1 I seemed to loose power and convinced myself it was only running on 3 then it seemed to sort its self out and cruising resumed at 60, stopping at Toddington services confirmed that it was indeed only running on 3. With visions of burned valves and worst case scenario images flowing through my brain and about to get OH to order a head set) i popped the bonnet and found this. Feeling much better at the sight I replaced the errant plug lead and 4 cylinder action was resumed, 1 of the others was loose to, will check them again in the morning. Anyway the rest of the trip was thankfully uneventful Now done 270 ish miles on gas. Hoping for a range of 500 miles ish

Yep looking good, that reminds me Muttley has some repairs to do on Alex's back doors, we removed her back windows years ago. When you say 500 miles, do you mean on a tankful of LPG?

Hoping for that just using LPG, will put some photos on of the underbonnet set up later, did you spot the filler location?

Results of first fill are in - despite running on 3 on the motorway and loosing a bit due to leakage - according to the pump at Flogas its managed an actual 24mpg! Needless to say whilst i'm impressed I think it is probably more down to filling at different pumps than an actual decrease in consumption. Will wait for the next fill to get a more accurate figure...

Just one thing, I was told LPG burns hotter and can burn valves. Anybody confirm if this is true?

Yep tis sort of true, you should really use flash lube if you don't have an unleaded engine or an alloy head (which have hardend seats as standard) they don't burn out over night though its only the same as running on unleaded. I'm just going to be checking valve clearances regularly.
A lot really depends on how its set up/ driven and to some extent what engine it is. I knew of some late 70's cars in Aus that did staggering miles on converted engines which never had valve trouble even with cast iron heads.

Hidden LPG filler - now you see it Now you don't And the bonnet got painted (and filled a bit) as well Next job is to convince the DVLA that its not a 1600cc and it is in fact running on LPG, last time I tried they wanted a letter from the garage that did the change confirming it as well as a load of other hoops to jump through...

Bit of an update, got the windows removed and steel in their place, didn't get anywhere near as much done as I would have liked due to burning out an exhaust valve on the trip north so ended up fitting a replacement head and new valves. I also now have a toasty warm heat that starts throwing out warm air after a couple of minutes from cold - I fitted an auxillary water pump as used on mercs etc, well and truely recommended, I have to turn the heater down now! I also got it tested again too, straight through no advisories, not even 'Its quite good for one of yours!' Got the rear lower quarter welded up as the snow melted enough to be laying down, but it just wasn't fit to be painting any more...
