Hi, i have been the owner of a early 1980 mk2 1600cc Transit van for 31 years. I purchased it from Rediffusion where i worked. After a couple of years i converted it to a Perkins 4108 diesel. It gave me years of service until it was parked up in 1996 and has been used as a storage shed since. I did at one stage set about to restore it and had new rear chassis ends fitted. I have now decided that it has to go to a new home. Could be restored or used as a source of spares. The engine still starts up and runs ok. The steps are shot but the wings, doors are serviceable. The front panel is a very solid replacement i sourced. The underside is quite solid. I have no idea what it is worth, any ideas? I can post pics of it when my son calls later. Cheers, Malc.

Welcome along Malc. Shame you're thinking of selling it after all these years. I can remember Rediffusion having mk1s down in Hastings but not mk2s. That was an interesting conversion, most people would have done it the other way I suspect, but probably to a 2000cc. Yes pics would be good but you'll have to do them through photobucket or similar. Location would also help. Good luck.

Hi, it had done 98000 miles when i bought it in 1983. After fitting the Perkins engine the diff had to be replaced with the correct ratio one as its top speed was only 40mph! I am located in Co Durham dl15-0dr. The reg no is - VGR 153V.

Welcome mate! If you upload the pics to photobucket.com the site gives you the code starting IMG which you copy and paste into the thread

Hi, i will get my son to load some pics over the next couple of days. I dont have a clue with computers. I would have restored it myself, but sadly i am now crippled with arthritis.

Sadly i dont so it is time to let it go. I have plenty of good memories with this van. I ran it on central heating oil for years and it returned a good 30+ mpg

Well, it's sad but not too sad, at today's prices I would see it at a minimum of £500, on an auction it could see as much as a grand. There is a guy on the FTF who is looking for just this type of van, I will tell him about it

Both footwell/steps are shot but i have two brand new ones. If the body was as good as the underside it would need very little work. About 7 years ago i had two new rear chassis ends fitted. I will try to get the engine started this week as it has not been started for a few years, Malc.
