www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-transit-Minibus-With-v5-transferable-reg-JB-3888-van-private-reg-/171366512240?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item27e63d7670OK so it says the very sorry specimen is a 66, stood for over 35 years. BUT the back doors and seats are later, and the reg is pre reg letter, JB 3888. When did A, B, C, D reg come in, 1962? Not too worried about it being described as a saloon, or having no model, many early transits were mis described on the reg document. The seats and back doors are later, but they could have been changed when it was stil in use. If it's right it's pretty rare, all be it sadly shagged!!

I think he's trying to sell it as a private plate, not that it's got a private plate. The V5 (which is a newish one) says first reg'd in 66, though I suppose it could have been a private plate in the 60s.

Depending on where it was first registered that could be the original plate, not everywhere went over to the new system straight away, London and Birmingham were amongst the first to start issuing the 'new' style registations. local offices in outlaying areas still issued old style plates for a while. Also apparently back then transfering a plate was simply a matter of going down to the local office and it would just be changed over on the old style log book.

Yeah i remember an old boy telling me he used to get the actual physical number plates from scrap cars, apply for the log books and then sell them as private plates. It was easy, as long as your name was on the log book. I know many registration offices were allowed to use up old style regs, but four years? Wouldn't they be issued in four years?

I'm pretty sure it would have to have a current MOT to take the plate off it and that doesn't look like it is going to happen any time soon!
