Having never worked on a transit before i thought i'd get some advice.the rear corner panels need work, around the light clusters,at the bottom and at the top.noe i have replacement panels but eas wondering id it best to remove and teplace the whole panels or just cut out the rot and repair the existing ones.

Cut it all out but leave enough to weld to

I'd agree, cut out the old panel and replace with new! It will last much longer.

Personally i`d cut the rust out plus an extra inch or two, the smaller the replacement you put in the easier it is to keep positioned right and theres less welding putting less heat into the panel which means less warping

Run a good bead of weld at the joint, then run the grinder down the seam line to match the original

If you can separate the seam plug weld the two pieces together. Failing that (making sure to use the same gauge steel) fold the two sides of the seam, plug weld them together and use that to patch the rust

No worries, one thing i forgot to mention, if you can avoid it do not make any sharp angular corners if you can avoid it. They will concentrate heat and cause warpage unless you are very careful and very lucky, try to make rounded corners if you can (its not always possible but do it where you can
