I'm looking for a nice tidy and very solid mk1 Transit, preferably a twin wheel van but might consider a single wheel van. Must be a tax exempt one and I don't mind if its diesel or petrol although would prefer a diesel one but its not critical. Don't mind if its an imported one either as quite often they are in far better condition than a uk one. Don't mind modified either as long as its tasteful. Budget around £3,500-4,000 but may stretch to £5,000 if its really nice or something a little special. Don't really want any projects as I have done enough over the years and no longer have the time for full blown projects anymore. I've missed out on a couple of nice ones lately so hopefully I will find one I like.
Cheers

So he might take a lot less in folding.

Thanks for your reply And pointing that one out I had seen that one but there are a couple of things I don't quite like about it. Why would it have phase 2 mk2 transit rear lights fitted? And I think it is a little highly priced really for the odd jobs it needs doing, guess that could be a good bargaining point though maybe.

And I think it is a little highly priced really for the odd jobs it needs doing, guess that could be a good bargaining point though maybe. It had the odd lights because they were handy / cheap / available / the guy liked them better / the guy's lady thought they looked nice I expect RP. Like you, I think it's over priced. I expect the guy realises it's high priced, and that it's a falling market at the moment. The plus side is that it there is probably very little rust. What do you reckon about asking him his best price for cash? Then if you think the price is sensible, going to have a look? Apart from that, how would a left hooker suit you? Well priced motors, and all the excitement of driving one back from Germany. There's still a few low mileage fire service ones around over there.

Lots of vans in Malta (come to think of it here too) have later parts fitted due to lack of availability of the right ones. There may be a bit of the body shell cut off to fit the later ones, but it's an easy fix and the Mk1 lights do come up on ebay often.

Thanks for the replies guys, I realise being from Malta that its going to have very little rust but it says that the gutters have some rust in the advert, if its bad I know from experience that its a bugger to repair having repaired gutters on a Anglia van in the past. I have been tempted to contact the seller to see what his best price for cash is. I would have to have mk1 rear lights on it though too.
A wouldn't be shy of a left hooker either as I quite like the German fire transits, I was going to go after Ken B's one that was for sale on transit.org forum (I know Ken from the Anglia world) but I just got beaten by someone else which was gutting. I wouldn't really be up for traveling over to Germany myself to bring one back though.

Yup, 'rusts' a bit vague isn't it. Surface rust, or rusted through? If you ask him, I expect he'll tell you.
The guy was affable enough when I asked him about another motor.
Pity about not fancying a trip to Germany. It's much like England, but with better beer, and better sausages. And their leberwurst sarnies are out of this world on a cold day. You could save yourself several grand. . . ;D And, perhaps grab a few hours on the Reperbahn. . . . .

I have a 7,5 ton beavertail if it helps..... That's a kind thought Fred. Rp could certainly bring a fair few German whores back from the Reperbahn on the back of your 7.5 tonner. ;D . ;D . ;D
It's not difficult to bring cars back from Germany Fred. They've got a special MOT called an export TUV, that they give to any motor that's just about safe enough to get out the country. Then you buy special plates and get you home insurance.
AA membership with international rescue, and you are water tight.
Makes a pleasant long break.

Despite working in Germany off and on for 10 years, my German only extends to two pints please, a leberwurst sarny please, I'm foreign so I don't speak German .
Almost everyone speaks good English, so I never learnt.
