Hi Ralph, I was told to use a 75w90 semi-synthetic by the people I spoke to.

Ford used to do a special gear oil for that box so you could select first from cold from neutral while stationary without having to go down through the box. I thought it was a synthetic oil too.
Banded steels no problem if you know who has done them how well they are trued up and the standard of their welding. There's a guy who's on various forums known as Jamesp he posted a picture of one he had banded for a stock car - they had put it into the fence and the rim was folded buckled back to the hub centre - the welds were all still perfect.

ive ran a type 9 in my mk2 for a while when it had a pinto and i also fitted one with the izuzu td conversion in my mates mk1 a couple of years back with no probs using the recommended semi synthetic oil.
coming over to the uk for the 50th bash last year was a good tester for the type 9 in the mk1 i thought, almost 1200 miles all over a weekend and a lot of hard motorway miles, not least when i was tight for time to make the ferry on my return journey when it wasnt under 70 mph for 3 hours!!
id imagine its important that the box is in good condition to start with in any case.

That's a good test alright, I won't be doing that sort of mileage very often if at all.

Got a skim coat on the drivers side now to cover the welding repairs and clean up the lines.

The best one of mine did 30 miles That's gotta be just bad luck, surely. Any idea why and what happened; what gearbox have you got now then?

Finally got a nice set of seats; The single seat needs to go to the trimmers to be adapted, it's a single passenger seat and I will need it adapted to fit my drivers seat frame.

Yes, the curse of the puk struck again...tried two t9's one did about 15 miles and the other as said. Mutts thought I'd put the wrong oil in and there was a little doubt over what they were like in the first place....but now running an hd 4 speed. Slow but steady and would pull a tank...but it's in puk so anything could happen.

You really have no luck with your camper. It does look good though. Eventually it'll stop messing you about and you'll wonder what's going on.
