Hi Guys, a few of you will know of me from the other transit forum and my cosworth 24v vans, but as i want a MK1 i guess this should be my home now, at the moment i have a mk6 LWB high top, but hoping to sell it soon and get in a mk1 swb, the plan is to build a supervan 1 EVO, i have been researching what i need and how to do it, and i think i'm now at the stage that i need a mk1, EVO is because although it will be mid mounted V8, it will be an Evolution of the original, sort of an upto date version.
i will do a build thread once i get the van, its not going to be a quick build, becasue i work in america 8 months of the year truck driving and hope to go on the ice road for some trucking next winter (to earn money for supervan1 evo)
so van will be a mk1 SWB with no side door as per the original with modified mk1 escort steel bubble arches, in white, (will be resprayed if need be and side door blanked off if the van has a side door)
engine will be from or similar to the 2005 Ford GT, but built from scratch with a better supercharger,
mustang tr6060 6 speed gearbox, mounted to a corvette transaxle (corvette uses the tr6060 but has the gear selector through the front where the fly wheel will be, so got to go with a mustang version and work the gear change out later, maybe flappy paddle), the gearbox out of a 2005 ford GT would be way to expensive to set up by the time all the suspension bits and drive shafts where got, corvette bits are way cheaper and stronger if diff and shafts are bought after market.
front axle will be a mustang II set up same as its done to most american hot rods, its easy, cheapish and a straight forward weld in unit that can be bought to fit with a few measurements.
electric power steering if power is needed,
full roll-cage made from scratch,
wheels are unknown yet, depends if i end up with all corvette 5x120 PCD or mustang 5x114.3, slightly more retro wheels available in the mustang PCD
so what you all think, will this be an interesting build or what, might need a hand finding stuff and info as i go, but as i don't think anyone has ever done a replica supervan 1 i thought it was about time.
oh and if you what to see the power of the engine, youtube mustang gt500 whipple 4.5, she is going to be a bit quick
