I am impressed! Can't help thinking you are searching for rust though. Over here we wouldn't even look at that, given there would be far worse to tackle!! Less impressed by your lack of footwear. Put some steelies on man.

Know there different shaped bulkheads, heater bowls etc on the Aussie built sixes but on my German v4 there a big drain hole with hose attatched at bottom of bowl(about 2inch dia)so water drains out of bowl(hose just exits side of gearbox),would it be worth fitting something similar on your bowl to stop future rust( or hopefully once done future rust will be that far off its not something to worry about!),would take away water trap that's caused it.
(about same size as an oil filler on a rocker cover,if you've got any old covers lying about to cut up)

(about same size as an oil filler on a rocker cover,if you've got any old covers lying about to cut up) Theres a drain hole with a tube attached on the piece i cut out (it broke off due to the rust) and i`m going to put one in place when i have the panel fitting properly as it would just get in the way for now. As for you foot haters, i had knocked off for the day (orders from my back lol) and just went out to get some pics. I hate wearing shoes at the best of times but when i`m working on the van i have footware on. For light work like this i only wear slip on shoes to protect my feet from metal off cuts on the floor and when i`m welding i wear leather steelcaps, leather apron and leather sleeves. I`ve been in this game for long enough to know i need to protect myself. Yes Fred your right, i am looking for rust, this is a bad spot and while i have the engine and tranny taken out i`m going to fix it, theres also a patch on the top of the grill panel where it bolts to the headlight panels. Theres a bit of rust in the old girl but ite more like lots of little spots rather than big patches i see in your vans, the worst of them are in the drip rail and on body seams (going to be fun). I want to get this done so i`m not getting rust coming through in 12 months, as i get the rust done panel by panel i will be priming it and then paint it when i`ve done all the rust
