I just bought a MK1 dual wheeler for 300 bucks and will be looking at getting it running this year. It's either that or my 1960 Falcon. It may not happen over night but it will happen. She's a bit rough around the edges but I'm fairly happy with the state of her.
The worst rust is the head light buckets. It looks like there is a spot welded insert to hold the head light in place and then the bezel to go over the top. Just wondering if these can be bought? It's only the bottom half of each that is rusted out, so I'm thinking I could possibly fab and weld replacement segments, but obviously I would prefer a full replacement.
Looking forward to getting to know the car, I never had any leaning towards a tranny until I saw it for sale.
Great buy! nice to see another transit being saved, what motor does it have.
G'day Bruce, it has a ford 250 cross flow. The fella told me it had a reverse gear box, 1st is where reverse is? There's rust in the floors and the head light buckets, but apart from that it's all surface. Should make an awesome little addition to the driveway. I'm not sure whether to leave it rat looking or do the cab. Either way I'm pretty stoked.
Yeah mate, good stuff I also have a twin wheeler I bought in Western Australia that I shipped home to Ireland. Mine has the 250 precross flow with the same three speed box, some pics on my previous posts. Recon you got the deal of the century with yours, could be worth 20 times what you paid here or in UK. This is a great forum with many of the guys happy to share there knowledge and help source parts.
