Was that split in the steering box bracket caused by the too long spring hangers you mentioned?

No, that seemed to have been there a while, it was rusy in the split. It has been repaired now

No, in fact he thought he had bought a goodun, it was only when the chassis gave way that he knew he had a problem. Thats a Mk2 hanger, theres a guy on ebay selling them 35 sovs each

It just pisses me off when people think that paying a lot for a van makes it a good one.

Some people are just too trusting it seems, I do think that in this case the seller seriously misrepresented the vehicle and was very good at it

It's all too easy to cover up rot. My own van, as you know had new chassis rails and crossmember plus sills valences and work to the cab steps and rear wheel arches. Even so, the tester this year found 4 to 7 rotten areas and my body shop found more, totalling 11 patches needed. SOme of these were fibre glass over rotten areas. It's not clear if it was the previous Irish bodyshop did this or if it dated back to it's UK days. Whichever, it managed to fool the previous tester and I guess came to light as it had deteriorated under the fibre glass.Hopefully it'll be Ok now for a few years but owes me about β¬7000 at this stage
