hi everyone, was planning on doing the 5 speed conversion on my pickup. Just getting parts at the moment. My pickup is lhd, and the gearbox I was going to buy is from a Rhd , is there any difference ? It's got the cable drive for the speedo. Well looking forward to having 5 gears, and reverse would be an absolute novelty. Cheers

not 100% sure but I think the rhd gearstick comes out of the other side of the box as I'm certain I've seen lhd floor mats with the hole further to the left, i could be wrong though😊 are you going type 9 or mt75 box

I wanted mt75 box, reading on here it seems it's the best way to go. I wouldn't have thought there's any difference, but I don't know for sure.

Yeah, it's definitely, the way I want to go, I,ve read somewhere type 9 , wear out quicker, something to do with bearings in them. When you said , about the gear stick , coming out in a different place, if it's only a couple of inches, I wouldn't think it would affect driving, regarding bolting gearbox to York engine, will it bolt straight on?

Mt 75 gear lever is in the middle of the box, you will need an LHD clutch cable to suit the MT, the box should mate to your York as its for a Di and they have the same bolt pattern.

Thanks for the feedback, it all helps. Had a look at the kit on eBay, it's a good kit, saves all the running around for bits, when you add the price of new clutch, and bits and pieces , it's not cheap job is it.? Convenience versus cost , something to think about. Thanks

What engine and gearbox do you have at present and do you have a one piece propshaft?

If its all stock with one piece propshaft, you will need a Mk3 Transit SWB two piece propshaft and you will have to fabricate a carrier for the centre bearing. Pinto and Mt75 box will require engine moving back to allow clearance with the stick flat front, also you will jave to make a new hole in the floor for the gearlever.

I know someone who does a wicked Granada engine install! I still have reservations over a type 9 but the mt75 seems to work well be sure about why you want to change the gearbox though😁

It does go, just not easy Looking at your pic there, do you still have pedals thru floor? If you do then you will need to convert to cable clutch for the type 9.

You will need to convert to facelift (post 1970) pendant pedals for Mt or Type 9, this means you will also have to fit master cylinder and servo from the later van. You will have to re pipe the brakes also as the later vans are dual circuit brakes.
