Hello, Really happy I found this forum! I have a 1968 Winchester Mk3 London Taxi, which is a fiberglass bodied car built on a Ford Transit Mk1 frame and running gear. Mine is equipped with the Essex V4 engine. Since I am in the U.S. there is virtually zero parts and information about the Transit MK1, so I hope this forum will be a great resource for information and parts. My car is in good mechanical condition, but I will be needing a few parts to make it perfect mechanically.

www.aronline.co.uk/other-cars/austin-fx4fl2-rival-cabs/More! Winchester In 1963, the Winchester MkI was the first taxicab to feature fibreglass bodywork. It was the brainchild of the managing director of Winchester Automobiles (West End) Ltd (a subsidiary of a specialist insurance group which had been formed in the late 1940s specifically to cater for the insurance needs of owner-drivers). The deisgn had been developed in consultation with a team composed of cab drivers, opertors and mechanics, with the aim of producing a design which would excel in all areas. The plastic bodywork, initially built by West Drayton-based fibreglass specialists James Whitson over a chassis constructed by Rubery Owen (best known for their classic “Rostyle” wheels), gave the cab two key advantages over the FX4 and Beardmore Paramount MkVII: lower weight and panels that couldn’t rust. MkI Winchester (left), in standard two-tone grey, demonstrates that “black cabs” have never actually had to be black, although by 1967, the MkIII version (right) took a more conformist approach.
