Thanks, I think she was worth the hunt. Could have bought no end of vee dubs, which was never going to happen, but going by peoples reactions when we've been out, there's a huge amount of love for an old Tranny from young and old. I'm sure there are a few gremlins hiding but it looks like worth the effort and a keeper for sure.
PS found out today the gearbox (with O/D) looks like its mk3 so we're moving forwards...

Is the Mk3 gearbox a straight fit to the V4 ?

No, is it a diesel or petrol gearbox?

Wow, that was a long pause in the conversation!! Apologies, life got in the way (kids marriages etc) To update, jury is still out on the box, committed to some garage time, but Covid got in the way losing input from the usual sources. Possibly Zephyr/Zodiac or Scimitar but certainly not top hung like the original. Previous owner had utilised Focus parts and ratchet strap which wasn't cutting it!! Had a custom crossmember made to fit pillow bushes and fitted along with seals and bearings as these had all been damaged by running at incorrect angles. Now laser aligned and smooth running but had to remove original top mounting as it was fouling the box. Also took opportunity to replace F + R springs, shackles and bushes, rear shocks (looking for fronts). Completely overhauled front brakes due to lack of anything on one side, dropped tank 3 times to cure rust in system, now all treated clean and clear. Sorted misfire (broken plug) now chasing carb issue. Starts on the button every time (electronic ign), runs on choke, but dies as soon as off choke, previously was like a sewing machine on tickover. Runs cleanly, taken for a long run to clear but still the same. Don’t want to start fiddling with settings as nothing else has changed so maybe a carb overhaul is next on the cards. Looking for a roof vent too as the original is long gone, but may have to settle for a period dormobile one as doubtful of finding something original. Note to self to check posts and not leave for two years!

Well, welcome back, sounds like you have been busy. Par for the course with any classics but Transits seem to come out on top
