Hi,everyone,I’m still busy in Portugal, just helped a friend move and as payment he gave me some parts from an F reg scrapped Transit camper van. I have the gearbox, prop, crossmember and diff, now will it be possible to fit it all to my York engine?.Dont know what box it is but guessing it is a MT 75 as the gear lever is up top,my initial concern is the rear box mount, the mount on the new box is further back and the crossmember is very different to mine- mine has one mount on the chassis and the other on the front spring hanger so just swapping the crossmember is not possible..Is there a post here detailing the process of swapping the box?. gonna change over the diff as mine is so knackered and leaking it’s driving me potty!. ill add photos of my new bits.cheers for any input!

Yes, MT75, if it came from a diesel it will bolt up to your York. You will need to fabricate a hybrid crossmember with the Mk2 and Mk3 parts. Propshaft will have to be measured and possibly shortened depending what wheelbase Mk3 it came from. You will need to cut another hole in the floor for the gearlever and get a Mk3 speedo cable.

Thanks Muttley,The hybrid cross member will have the same drop to carry the gearbox or will it need to be lower? From my crude tape measurement it looks like the MT has to sit 2-3 cm further back than the four speed..Luckily the prop shaft looks like it will be there or thereabouts, hopefully the carrier for the central bearing will be in the same place! Thanks again!

When I do the MT75 swap, I bolt up the gearbox and jack it up to get the correct angle towards the diff. Then make your crossmember to suit. If I remember rightly the rear section of the prop needs to be shortened if you use the standard centre bearing mount.

Thanks again, just read somewhere that the MT75 and the four speed have the same gear ratios for 4th and 5th(top) so if I fit the mt then my york will probably lack the grunt in the right place to pull 5th?. Swapped the diff over yesterday and it is now almost a pleasure to drive- I can now hear the engine clearly! There’s some strange noises in there!,I’m going to whip the head off and change the valve stem oil seals, from my manual it suggests that it’s not necessary to remove the belts which is great news,my main concern is the exhaust manifold, the manual recommends splitting the exhaust but one of my manifold connectors is leaking which makes driving with the window open stinky.Do these bolts come out even??!. Do you know what size they are so I can pre buy replacements?. Cheers!

My bad, just looked at 7thheaven website about the MT 75 and realised 4th is 1.0 in both boxes but 5th has a bit more 0.83 so might be worth a look!
