The only symptoms i know is that the brake is down to almost nothing with the engine off or on. My friend the mobile mechanic has sent me on a mission to find a new one...

You can fit up to a Mk3 mate, and bungle said even an LDV one. You will need new pipes though.

Pity to spend all that hard earner when seals and cylinders appear available though Fred?
What's the chance it simply needs bleeding?

Right...thanks gpw, have had a look at the sockets, nope sorry dont own anything that small...yes i am happy to take off a wheel but cannot jack this honey up at the moment as have no jack or axle stands yet (other problems keep getting in the way of such purchases) The fluid level has not dropped and does not need topping up which is why i would think that mvm (the mechanical medicine man who helps me try and understand puk) thinks its a whole server issue... Regardless, i am intrigued and would like to know more...when we change the servo over i will try and get some pics to go with what you are about to tell me so that maybe others can benefit too...and i am not so sure the forthcoming servo wont need tlc as well

. From the information you have given me, which is that the problem is the same with or without the engine running it ain't your servo Jono. If it is, you can replace parts.
Your brake works without the servo. Servos only make the brake pedal easier to push.
Every thing you've told me makes me think your brakes only need bleeding.
