Sorry Jono, I didn't find your picture.
I need a picture of the cast iron bit.
Your pic shows the 1) white plastic reservoir 2) the black steel servo 3) a valve that limits the pressure at the rear brakes to stop them locking.
Working from you pictures, I now only need to know
1) the letters at the beginning of your VIN (on you log book) 2) if you have disc or drum brakes.

.Gulp, discs look shiny (unless you haven't used it for a long time). Drums look rusty, unless they are new. except, of course, if you've got a trailer tart. If you actually have got discs on the back , you will need non-standard master-cylinder, valve, etc..

Ok, thanks gpw, then you have my best guess at this...its a standard brakes and lining thing, which i think you are saying is drums then...not sure if the tart comment was meant for me or the trailer

Trailer tarts are pampered motors that attend shows in a covered trailers Jono. Also called trailer princesses . Ok, drum brakes, what year is it please? It's best if you send me the letters of your VIN, that way I can find out the production year. Do you understand German?

Hour or so with a wire brush attachment to a drill and then slobbered with anti rust stuff has turned it into a smurf

.
I suggest you 1) lightly hone the walls of the cylinder, 2) flush it out well, 3) rebuild it with new seals lubricated with rubber grease 4) refill with DOT3 brake juice, (the additives in DOT3 last longer).
before you fit it Jono.
Whilst you are at it, new brake hoses would be money well spent, unless yours have been replaced recently.
Incidentally, Lidl have a hydraulic trolley jack on sale this week at what looks a very good price.
