Nice looking van, do u have any under bonnet pics? Does it have a transit type 9 or Sierra box?

it,s got the sierra 5speed box, which has pushed the gear lever right back to the seats (ok once u get used to it) also the speedo reads high. so hope to change back to a transit box to put gear lever back to right place and get speedo working accurately. but not shure which gearbox will be best ? may be one from a series 3 ? also its under geared , may be higher ratio gearbox or backaxle. working on waterleaks tomorrow with my son,s help but my daughter only likes vw campers (no taste) graeme

It's pretty simple to make a remote that will bring your gear lever to where you want it Graeme. You could get your daughter involved by using VW parts.
Much easier than changing a gearbox. If the box matches the engine, is it wise to change it?

the transi type9 should be a straight swap for the sierra type9 but I am not a big fan of em. They are a mk3 box but having roller bearings means they dont wear well.

vw parts erm no ta ! it,s got a type n aluminim box which i think were used on mk3s but with gear lever further forward ( c,ant quite tell from manuals) i c,ant put a remote gear change in as top of box is very close to the floor. why did i sell my 1st mk2 it had a overdrive gearbox and would pass 90mph on speedo to h of mph at the bottom of speedo about 110 mph surprised alot of people ( on german autobahns of course) thanks all graeme

Cut the top off your old gear lever just above the top of teh gearbox. Drill a hole through what's left, the hole goes across the car.
Bolt an old VW gear lever socket to the floor where you want your gear stick to rise.
Drill a hole through the VW gear stick near the bottom.
Fit forks to the two sticks.
Join the two forks with a bit of tube.
Used to be a common Fred in a Shed mod before manufacturers twigged on that people wanted remote sticks. Only they moved the stick back not forwards.
O/D boxes ;D ;D ;D

I dont have a shed If its an ally box it would be an MT75 mate. You need the matching crossmember and bolt upfront prop section......

Gave that forward extension mod a bit of extra thought Transit9.
You would probably need to weld flanges on to the gear stick rather than drilling them.
Another way is to extend your present stick and bend it forward.
Normal Transit sticks are long and bend backwards. so you would end up with a stick like a normal Transit stick, but bent forwards not backwards.
Both methods are cheaper and easier than Fred's method, but I have to agree with Fred, that her solution is far superior in the long run. ;D ;D If you have the where withall to do it.
