I have come to the conclusion I'm a glutton for punishment. After having this van for just under a year it has had a lot of unforeseen work l,like engine , box carb plus a near on full cab respray . Anyway now it's passed it MOT its time for its first proper road trip so I thought 432miles through France would just about do it .
So what would you pack in the way of spares , I was thinking fan belt , throttle cable and clutch cable .

just make sure you have proper recovery/breakdown cover.there was someone on a site over here that took theirs to france and it broke down.the recovery that was with thhier insurance only got them off the motorway to a local garage.was told turbo etc gone and would cost 10k.they struggled for a few days but found a local recovery company to take them back to the boat at 1k.people were recommending adac in Germany.they cover everthing.

I have full roadside assist and repatriation if necessary , as long as it gets me to the campsite if I have any problems I could DHL parts to fix it

take a cluch cable. Hrd to get in France and easy enough to fit but will stop you dead if it goes. you can get away with takinkg out recovery if you break down. Just dont tell em!

I don't know if you can get AA 5 star assist .It will tow you home and give you a replacement vechicle to continue with your holidays and lots of other things also.I once had Vauxhall Viva towed back to Dublin that I would not have travelled to the next village in unless I had bus fare with me.It had broken down just as it got off the ferry.Insurance covered everything.

Good spare starter, jump leads, decent tool kit with the spanners you'll need for basic repairs, extra spare wheel, assortment of jubilee clips, silicon sealant, few bits of wire, points, condensor, dizzy cap, spare coil, couple of spare spark plugs, can of flat fix, decent jack and wheelbrace. Tow rope + warning triangle and full set of bulbs inc headlights if they're sealed beams
A lot of that is probably over kill but then again I wouldn't even know how to begin miming "I need a new set of points for my transit" + the extra spare is because when you get a flat you will always be in what seems the most expensive place in the world for tyres and you've got no choice unless you carry on without a spare..
Edit - even if you can't change the part yourself at the side of the road you will at least be able to get it fitted if you have it with you.

VERY good point about the spare 15in tyres aren't common abroad. Also its a legal requirement to have a flouro vest for all in the van in France in case of breakdown. You can get them from the pound shop

sorry typo. That should be 14in. You may have the wrong speedo drive in the box.
