Right then,i've got a bit of a dilemma, after my France trip i've noticed that my engine smokes white on fire up then on the overrun smokes black,it allso leaks from the diesel pump(lucas cav) it doesn't smoke when driving!! also the 4 speed box leaks oil too. i can get a second hand motor off a friend for £150 with 5 speed box would i be better to sort my engine/box or swap the lot for the later 1999 2.5 engine/box..the other motor/box has 140,000 on the clock and is an ex gas board van.i know it was good but hasn't ran for 2 years. either way i know i've got work to do im just not sure whats the best.. cheers kev

you can fit any lucas pump mate, they arent fussy about injectors unlike the bosch pumps.

Ok then,i have no experience with diesel pumps, how easy are they to strip and re build? how difficult and expensive would a second hand/new pump be? and could i fit the bosch pump and injectors off this other engine relatively easy? so many questions but im in the dark re diesels.. then theres my leaking gearbox,if i can still get seals for it im ok with the 4 speed and o/d and shoul be cool with a re build. cheers kev

yes you can fit a bosch pump and injectors. You could then run on veg oil . Personally I wouldnt repair the pump but then I dont know that much about the internals. Lucas pumps dont cost that much.

Injection pumps are not DIY rebuildable, they must be worked on in a super clean enviroment and the internals must be kept immersed in diesel or calibration fluid, once stripped it would have to be re-calibrated on a machine I have a lucas pump here, whats the numbers on yours?

Should be a little plate rivetted to the pump body

CAV rotary pumps have different bore sizes and governor settings for specific applications
