Hi all, thought id introduce myself im Pete from Ramsgate. I have just purchased a 1980 Transit 2.5di Motorhome. This was one of those spur of the moment things, i saw the old girl on the internet and it was only 45 miles from where i live, well i went and had a look and became a mk2 owner, ok she's a proper old noisey thing and relies on a 4 speed box, ive already purchased an mt75 5 speed box but am not sure what i need to do to make it fit, any idea's guys?? Im looking forward to getting some weekends away with this motor, ive got to admit i like the mk2 Transits, just need to get used to the lack of power steering and build the Biceps

Welcome along , I recently fitted the MT75 , you need to either modify you crossmember or replace it with a mk3 one and you will need a 2 piece prop from a LWB .

Welcome mate. I assume as you mention noise shes a DI! At least if so you dont need an adapter plate. If shes a pinto (why so noisy??) you do need the adapter. You also need a matching crossmember and front prop and to cut a hole in the floor to the right of the original as the MT75 gear lever comes up in a different place to the original.

Cheers for the welcome and the info on the gearbox change, just a couple of things as im a tad confused or becoming a bit thick in my old age, in regards to the prop, do i use part of my prop on the 2 piece prop from the mk3? Would i need to have the prop shortened at all? I take it my starter motor will fit the bell housing ok and will the mk2 4 speeds clutch release bearing and arm fit on the mt75? I dont want to pull the 4 speed off and find myself in a pit of poo, for the record she's defo a 2.4di 1980, any ideas on fuel consumption and drivability with the mt75 unit as opposed to the 4 speed box, she's a twin wheeler as well, i'll try and figure out how to upload a photo of her, i think she's pretty darn cool

You can upload direct from your computer to the forum, you need to be in full edit to see the attachment button. After that its like attaching a photo to an email..
Now, the front of the prop must match the gearbox as its bolt up and the 4 speed is spline in. You need the clutch to match the box.

Well here's my mk2 Motorhome, hopefully the photo shows up ok, just spent the past 2 days t cutting all of this oxidised paint finish since this photo was taken and im impressed with the result, she's pretty much original, got the odd rust bubble to contend with and a bit of nearside sill. The good lady wife has been tidying her up inside and making the ol Transit livable, cant wait to go and try the joys of camping Attachments:
