Im a tad confused as i dont know anything about the Banana engine, are they better then the 2.5 di? Does anyone know what year Transits were fitted with the Banana engine? I dont mind my old di engine as ive travelled from Ramsgate kent to the west side of Scotland a distance of 500 miles and the oil level is still on the max, bit of a noisey journey averaging 55-60 mph and used £137 of diesel, bearing in mind my Transit is a mk2 lwb Travel home with a 4 speed gearbox. Is the banana a better engine to go for? quieter? bit faster? Any thoughts on this subject would be welcome

The banana name refers to the air intake of the later DI. It's not particularly faster, though the Bosch pump is quieter and can take veg oil. They are sensitive to heat though, unlike the early DIS with the lucas CAV pump. For real performance improvement, you could go for a TDI and use a manual Bosch pump, avoiding the need for CPU. Personally I would start with upgrading to an MT75,for better fuel consumption. The MT was developed for the DI so you would need the gearbox, crossmember and propshaft.

Ive got an MT75 waiting to go in but i need to locate a prop and a crossmember, i also need to know exactly what else i need i.e what clutch assembly thrust bearing and clutch arm etc, i dont want to start taking the box off to find something dont fit
