OK. here I am, living the dream in New Orleans. I'm a Brit ex-pat, ex Royal Engineers, ex MD of a printing company, now retired. Love to travel and see stuff. hence the 'van. It's a 1985 UK Transit (with 51K miles!) because the engine is less litres than (say) 6.5 in the US equivalent Ford E150. Transits were never sold here until the Connect, so this 'van is very rare over here - it may be the only one in USA! I'm sitting here waiting for Tropical Storm Karen to pass. No biggie, I was here all through Katrina, and Isaac last year etc etc. My house is 1895 and doesn't flood even if the levees break. But it's a bugger when the power goes off, living in 100F and humid. Had the front lawn mowed yesterday and a rock broke my drivers' door (RHD) window - anyone got a spare they can sell me? Glad to be here so I can read others adventures! :-)

Wow welcome mate! I think yours is the second Mk1 or 2 transit I know of in the US. I could get a glass to you but don't know if it would survive the trip, The shape is the same left and right, in the short term if you can get the other glass out (remove the quarter light then tilt the drop glass to get it out) you can use the other side glass to make a template for a perspex temp replacement.

The original glass is tempered and has shattered. I am currently holding it together with sellotape.. but it won't last long..

It had 8K miles on it and the 'screen was literally shot. So I cam to UK to see family and was given a 'screen. I made a carry-on out of a pasting table and polystyrene. Worked a treat. But sending by mail will need a bit stronger box I think.

Welcome along mate. Looks like you can get a window ok if you can organize the shipping, good luck. Get some photos of your van up so we can all see it and how about the story of how it ended up over there. Did you have it shipped over or was it already there? Any UK history with it etc?

Get some photos of your van up so we can all see it and how about the story of how it ended up over there. Did you have it shipped over or was it already there? Any UK history with it etc? The previous owner was a teacher in Doncaster who sold me the van via Ebay as he needed a larger camper to go to Europe with his growing-up children. No one else bid on it, mainly because he put up the most dire pictures, but reading his blurb: 51K miles two owners, hand-written 'diary' entries of parts replaced, miles done, oil changes etc made me realise that the van was well maintained, rust free and basically hardly used. So I shipped it out via a Ro_Ro service out of Southampton and into Galveston Tx, where I collected it and drove it home to New Orleans. I import UK cars to re-sell over here. Mainly Land Rovers and Mini's but occasionally other marques to make a change. I came completely unstuack with a Renault 5 and a Reliant SS basically because the renault had a bad image as 'Le Car' (Series 1) when sold in USA, and no-one had heard of a Scimitar SS. So back to land Rovers and Minis! Attachments:

The van is my 'keeper' as I really fancy 'road trips' round the south. I am off to a scooter rally next weekend at Pensacola Beach (200 miles away), my first with the van. I shall trailer the scoot. And take pics!

Hello and welcome , I have a glass, you are welcome to it if you can organise shipping Terrific! I will let you know what type it is to make sure we're on the same page. Can you knock up a case? Some 2 X 4 and hardboard plus bubble wrap should do the job. I will of course pay for your time and materials. I have a UPS account and can get it collected from your address. let me know if this is OK.

View AttachmentWord to the wise on packing , check the USA requirements on wooden casing , normally they don't except packaging in wood unless it's stamped to say it's been treated . I would suggest any case is wrapped in corrugated card board. I have lost stuff in customs before because of the packaging
