Hello,
Recently purchased a MK2 transit Ci Travelhome. 2ltr Pinto & a 4 speed, looking to change it to a 5 speed type 9 so any advice or how to guide's floating about?
Bodywork is solid in the right places, but one wing has rusted away to nothing & been made up with fibreglass and filler. Plan is to bodge it up again for the next year, gather the required panel work and set about it next winter after other projects are finished!

welcome mate! Have to say I am not a fan of the type 9. Had a couple of themin the past in different Mk2 lutons. One was (though working well) was VERY slow and another went bang in Germany meaning a 3 day relay to get it back. They are.not a strong box in the transit, but fine for cars. The only thing going for them is they can be fitted without cutting the floor. The MT75 is a far better 5 speed but its a little more work to fit. Worth it though.

The only reason i thought Type 9 originally was from having a mk2 escort, that is the box of choice, i never knew of the mt75. But reading about i see a few have been fitted with the type 9

the type9 is fine for cars. Remember the transit is meant for commercial use, and its heavier than a car in the first place, fully loaded heavier still. It has roller bearings that wear quicker than the MT75's ball bearings and un reconditioned type9s are now all over 20 years old.
