They are real easy to rectify, ive had a couple that have seized solid and managed to get them working again. Mind you i used to assemble blower motors for a living at A C Delco in my early days.

what are the usual things to look for?the first one spins easy enough,did work but stopped.the second one is a little stiff but haven't tried it yet.is it easy to get brushes?

You need to remove the end cap to get to the brushes. First thing to do is oil the bearings to get things moving freely again. The cap is staked on the casing, so tap them back with a hammer to release. Pull the springs back that hold the brushes in and pull the cap off, the armature might come with it too.
Odds on the brushes will be ok, but the commutator will be realy dirty. Clean this with fine emery paper untill the comm is nice and shiny, then get a razor or stiff card and run it through the slots of the comm to get the crud out.
The bearings in the endcap will need a good soaking in light oil as they are porous and retain the oil.
