Hello everyone! This is the story about a campervan called "Darcy", christened that name because of its rugged good looks and beautifully large forehead! Things were not always beautiful though, as can be seen in the following photos i got sent to my phone after replying to a simple text only ad on a very popular trade website here in Ireland. "transit mk2, for parts or restoration. Its a camper" rough enough looking but twin wheel, and being always in the market for a mk2, i said i'd for a look anyway.

after a viewing it was a donedeal! It was home in the yard a couple of days later! Originally i thought this was a genuine factory built mk2 motorhome, on a 1982 cab and chassis, and like most stuff this age, rots out from standing idle and lack of use. However, it appears to be a Jennings Roadranger body transplanted onto an 82' cab and chassis, probably done when the original mk1 cab and chassis rotted out. From what i can gather, Jennings never sold a mk2 based version of their motorhome. At this point I considered breaking it for the axles and running gear, and sell the body, as it was in fair enough condition. The cab was about as rough as I'd seen!

So this was back in spring/summer 2012, and it stayed like this, being dragged in and out of the shed as other members of the fleet needed attention! More parts were taken off, the transit part of the camper ideally needed replacement, and the campervan body was fair but had some rot that could be easily fixed. The worst damage was to the back pillar where someone had reversed into something. The interior was dry and had no roof leaks, which was surprising considering it was about 40 years old.

In may 2013 things kicked off. I had been looking for a replacement complete cab and chassis to mount the body on, but I couldnt find any after months of searching. I started on the left side and said I'd work my way around the cab. At least i'd get plenty welding practice!
