as far as i know, if you send your own torn one to east kent trim supplies they ill make you a new one. Thanks for that bit of knowledge superb.

i got a bit more done with this one recently. as the weather hasnt been great i decided to hold off on getting the cab blasted and primed for the moment and concentrate on getting the rear section figured out. probably better getting this sorted now than when its primed or painted. i had originally decided to leave the old mk1 slider spring setup as it was when we made up the new chassis. but recently i figured i would make more sense to convert to the later mk2 setup to take the swinging shackle and springs with eyelets on each end, so as there would be no problem finding replacement springs. mk2 to mk5 twin wheel springs are all the same i learned, cant beat the fords!! so i tackled one of my scrappers for the rear spring hanger brackets. when i started to pick off the brackets i found a lot of corrosion and figured it would be as easy to make up a pair of new brackets and crush tubes to go through the chassis. i swapped out the axle and springs for a 4.63 axle/springs from a mk3 ambulance i broke a while back so i had the later springs and shackles to mock all up. new brackets in place, should be less of a rust trap than the original mk2 setup i think. i bought this mk5 tipper bout a year ago with a bit of tax and test left on it and used it for a few months. the truck itself wasnt in great shape but it has a fresh tipper ram and pump setup and aluminum sides and tailgate in good order. ill also be using some of the running gear. i only intend to use a bit of the tipper subframe and tipping gear, and to build a new body as the mk5 body isnt in great nick. i also want to have the body the right size on the mk1. i see a lot of later bodies fitted that dont look quite right as they look too big on the older trucks. so the stripping began! body off first. followed by the subframe and tipping gear. after a bit of measuring stuff, figuring out and drawing pictures, i kept the angle grinder fest going and chopped the hinges and spud section for the tipping ram off the old body. next job will to drop in the engine/box and fit the ram and subframe on the back chassis so i can mock up the prop shaft and make up a hanger for the carrier bearing so that the ram will not foul the prop etc. i also have a plan to cut the mk2 axle each side and fit mk5 ends and hubs so i can run 15 inch wheels to match the front and also have the mk5 brakes in keeping with my plan to have all later running gear meaning easily scourced parts. i have done my homework on this and checked that the shorter mk2 shafts will work with the mk5 hubs. still loads to do!!

You had me right up to the 15in wheels. I know what you mean about parts being easier to get, but personally I would keep some recon discs and calipers on the shelf and keep the original wheels. Later wheels just don't look right...

You guys are so lucky being able to build your own chassis and such, we cant do that over here without some pretty heavy engineering on an individual basis. Looks bloody good mate, your making some great progress.

What would happen if you just did it and put in for the rego? How would some 12 year old doing inspections know? BTW if you did this here with a car, strickly speaking, it would need an inspection too. BUT if you did it and said nothing, took it for an MOT and it passed, happy days!

If the vehicle was involved in an accident your insurance can be wiped both compulsory and voluntary if the repairs don't have the proper paper work

Again, how would they know? If the repairs (as shown in this thread) are done to the highest standard, what difference would it make? Technically one of ours, if she wasn't 3.5 ton, would need an IVA (or whatever its called) as over the years she's had all of the running gear replaced and chassis mods. Yet the replacements still pass the MOT.

Later wheels just don't look right... my original plan was to run 14" wheels fred. i thought i could mod the brake setup on the ifs front hubs to clear the 14,s and re drill the hubs for the old pcd but it just wont work. steering arms also foul but that would have been manageable. so my options are either to run the oval hole 15 inch wheels which arent too terrible, or another plan i was thinking of would be to mod a set of those horrible square holed 15,s by making up a set of insert plates to flush fit into the squares with holes the same size as the original 14,s in em. with a wee touch of filler before painting it would be impossible to tell the inserts were welded in. there would be a bit of work involved but could be worth it. one positive would be that the gearing should be sweet with the 4.63 axle and the 15,s.

I forgot you had IFS and even then thought 14 in hubs could be fitted. Too much mix and match? its a while since i had a play with hub options. when i seen the ifs steering arms fouling the 14,s i gave up. i must weigh up the 14" hubs and see how they would sit if made to fit.
