Hi all
I've recently purchased a mk2 tipper which will be my daily work vehicle.
I also have a mk3 escort series one rs turbo which I saved from the crusher over 10 years ago having done a full concourse restoration on her. Media blasted to bare metal, zinc dipped and then many many hours of blood and sweat!
Also ford related I've had/restored
1994 escort RS cosworth mk5 1998 escort van mk6 1997 escort 1.3 mk6 1968 escort mk1 Mexico replica 1982 escort mk3 RS1600i 1987 Sierra 3 door RS cosworth 2003 transit mk6 extra long wheelbase dropside
So a few fords alhough fords are not actually my main preference as I've had many more other toys of a different makes.
Also my father is building a model t replica using genuine panels and a 1950 ford pop chassis.
I plan to make a build thread of the progression of the trannie which will include the escort a little bit too. Both being B plates I sort of see them as a matched pair.
Immediate plans are to remove the freshly built 205 pinto and fit a di and 5 speed but I'm new to these old vans so need some direction. I may find the pinto is ok to live with!?
I'd include some pictures if I knew how!?
Look forward to learning more about this van and appreciate any help and advise you can provide.
Regards lee

hi Lee! I like the sound of your toys! You might want to keep the pinto if you live near the LEZ/London. We have a LWB tipper and shes quick enough even with a 4 speed and a dodgy 2L. If you are hauling weight though the Di is the way to go. You will need photo hosting like www.photobucket.com to post pics. Sadly the forum exceeded the free direct upload limit.

Hi Fred
I believe we spoke over on the transit forum a few weeks ago. As I was looking to contact transitgeoff and go down the 2.4 tddi route. But it's too expensive an option to consider currently.
Im based on the Suffolk/Essex border but do subcontract work in London up to once a week for someone and use their vehicle as part of the contract. I was originally looking to get another mk6 dura torque which would be lez friendly as my contractor offered to pay me an allowance to use my vehicle. But to get a 54/55 plate tipper or dropside I was looking at £2500-4000 for a 150k'ish mile van that looked tired and let's face it most have not been treated with respect! So I've gone for this mk2 which I can fix if it breaks and it should if anything appreciate in value as well as a quirky advertising base for my business.
Yes the pinto is stupidly lez compliant but I would not be happy doing the 100mile round trip for work with it.
Like I say I really need to get a feel for the van before any decisions are made, but it was always part of the plan to Banana a mk2 even before I bought this one.
I've not used photobucket for years, will be handy if my account is still live as I've literally got hundreds of photos of restorations and cars I've owned.
As mentioned I really am at this stage looking for as much info on what's involved in the Di conversion and wether parts or a donor is the way to go. I've read various things like needing a mk3 prop and the mt75 crossmember etc. but can't seem to actually find a definitive thread on the conversion?
Regards lee

Hi lee
Welcome along , I'm in the process of fitting a DI into my landliner ,I have also opted to chuck a turbo on at the same time just to confuse myself more . It's pretty straight forward and if you can find a complete doner it will make your life easier

welcome along.ya sound like ya have a nice collection.anything to do with beetles by any chance? All sorts mate, yes my username…my 1949 beetle craziest restoration I've ever done, started as a Subaru impreza engine conversion, then I found the original chassis for my body which had been separated for 20 years! Ended up going full circle and doing a concourse factory standard rebuild with cable brakes and semaphores! Scariest was a 71 Aston Martin DBS but that's another story, different forum etc.

your best bet is a TDi with manual Bosch pump. You then dont need a CPU. Get a complete donor and do the MT75 at the same time.

I can't say too much as i've not tried mine (2.0 pinto + 4 speed minibus) with a serious load but the previous owner was towing about a huge twin wheel German caravan with it and he thought it went ok. Personally you might be better trying yours out with the petrol and see how you go once you are used to it, you could always fit a better towing cam for a bit more go.
Edit - you do realise what one trip a week into the LEZ with a non compliant vehicle (ie your mk2 with a Di) will cost don't you? (£100 to £200) You could probably put a V8 in and the extra fuel wouldn't come to more than that a week.

I'm not fussed about speed or power that much. The main reason for a Di swap would be for mpg fuel reasons.
