Er....im feeling a bit foolish now. Ive just found the dipstick! On the mk2 the dipstick is in the left hand side under the middle plug, and this is where i though the stick was missing as the tube is there, but the dipstick is on the front of the engine under where the fuel pump would be. So, my question now is.... Why? If the dipstick is at the front why the other tube at the back and shouldnt this be covered?

If it's any consolation , I undid all the bolts on the water pump on my DI then realised that was the oil pump , thank god I realised before I cracked the seal
