this is all hypothetical at the moment until we know what is happening with the house but i was wondering how much can the chassis be repaired until it becomes dangerous? as some may recall the chassis on the minibus is quite rusty but fairly solid and in an ideal world the whole chassis would be replaced but that can't be done.i was wondering could it be replaced in say 3 foot long sections but not is normal sections?i'll try and explain the best i can.say for instance i cut the top half off where the floor is attached to about half way down on the outside edge.then done the same on the inside section but staggered along about a foot further than the front bit.then replace the whole bottom section again staggering it from the top sections something like brick laying.would it be safe enough if it was seam welded.

i'd say getting it through the test will be a nightmare. They'll want an Engineers report for sure on the welding and I dread to think what he'd say

Its all down to the quality of the welding, I have replaced all of the front chassis on Freds blue LWB and most of the rear. Its probably stronger than Fords made it

what's the best way of making a template for the chassis rail? i want, well need don't want,to replace a 5ft section from just past where the chassis curves in from the rear going forward but i just got some rough measurements thru the wheel arch and it would appear that it is different heights from 100mm to about 110mm.so it appears that around the suspension area it is not as high would it make that much difference if i made it all one size or would it interfere with the suspension movement etc?

Make up a cardboard temlpate of the panel you need then cut it out in steel.

was thinking that.how hard is it to remove the spring as was thinking if i cut the chassis rai lout then the outriggers that hold it in place would move up and maybe hard to get back in place.of course all this depends if we stay here
