Good day all, sharing a wee problem I have with my four speed gearbox... it no longer selects forth, boohoo,it’s slow enough already !.ive probably got to take the selector box off now and have a poke about.I know there are spring loaded ball bearings in there, might this be the problem? Anybody else had similar issues?.i had the lever out and from the looks it is a G box..but will double check today now I have a manual at hand.happy motoring y’all

Look at the gear lever, does it have a lot of play, remove it and look down on the selector gate and see if it all lines up. Try to select fourth with a large screwdriver, if you cant or the selectors are misaligned then you will have to remove the side plate and investigate further. Its a straightforward procedure but you will lose oil.

Thanks again Muttley, going to look at it now,all the gates line up but I can’t select 4th, it ‘feels’ like a roll pin or something has shifted and isn’t allowing it to fully move, before loosing 4th I always had to be gentle and rev the engine whilst pulling it through, and it would invariably crunch, sad to say that I lost 4th after bumping the van in second but am bemused why it should have happened.so oil out and panel off. So,that little beauty didn’t want to come off. The selectors move freely on their shafts but the 4th gear has some chewing on it... any clues? Do I need to reposition 4th on it’s shaft or summit?? Tried uploading an image but the site has exceeded its limit!;(

Its more likely the synchro hub on 4th gear, total strip for that.

Well, there seemed to be some slight burring on the sinchro,I flattened it off and tapped fourth in to place in multi positions, took it for a drive and now fourth does engage ifbut stiffly,I’m hoping it will ease itself back into normal behaviour!.but I have fourth at least. I do have the MT75 waiting to go in but as you kindly pointed out it needs cutting and welding of the prop shaft and another hole in the floor..that’s going to be a job for when I have more free time! . Thanks again for your thoughts.
