Yes I'm in Melbourne Australia thanks for reply, I have an ark welder, angle grinder cutoff disks etc. & could probably borrow a mig/tig I'm guessing I have to remove the rusty inverted inside skin to sand back the chassis rail spray on rust converter but that's what I'm not sure about. It blows me out to see the great resto's you guys perform though, regards Will.

you really need to read Muttleys thread about his crewcab Mk2. I copied it over after the forum was deleted. Its epic and makes your spring hangers look like surface rust.

Hello and welcome to you matey How far do you want to go is the question? You could grind back the rust, cut out and patch the worst bits etc. Or, remove the rust altogether and fabricte repair panels to suit. The front spring hangers and chassis are amongst the most important load bearing parts of the chassis, as such they should be repaired to be close to or better than original. I would make a template of the vertical part of the hanger and get an engineering company to fabricate repair panels, then cut off the dodgy bits and weld on new metal. The chassis can be repaired by cutting out the rot and putting in new metal. You will find a Mig is the only way to do this type of welding, arc welding is not controllable enough
