Saw a lovley V6 conversion and it's made me want to consider it. I have a mk2 tipper which is converted to Di and 5 speed as my daily work truck. I love my Di but it's SO noisy in there! Anyone have any real world MPG useage figures. I'm just about to do a proper mpg test on the Di to see what I'm actually getting as this will be my main deciding factor as to considering a change. Also does anyone know if the Essex V6 bolts up to the MT75 gearbox? Other arguments for considering the change is reduced can noise, no LEZ issues (not that I actually need to yet) and of course the lovley V6 sound

Conversions are short on sound deadening unless yours is a custom. Have you tried adding any more sound insulation? I would be curious to see if the running costs of a V6 would be more, given diesel costs more in the first place.

I would be curious to see if the running costs of a V6 would be more, given diesel costs more in the first place. Sound deadening is next on my list once I finally get round to stopping my windscreen rubber letting in more rain than is actually falling haha. My decibel Meter is currently recording an average of 95db inside the cab at about. 40-50 mph!!!! It's not just cab noise, the di is a redicicously loud engine. Having driven the last two weeks with the aircon on full/aka window down all the way it's clear that no amount of sound deadening will help in the summer! I actually drive with earplugs which are rated at -38 db reduction it's the only way my hour long journey each day is possible. I'm very Intrested to see if anyone actually can give me some v6 mpg experience to work with.

Don't even go there, if its a working truck you will be paying a fortune to run it. Budget for a maximum of 19-20 mpg and if you carry weight then you will be down at 14-15mpg. Essex is not the most reliable of lumps and is also hard to find in good condition and low compression transit form

Yeah, proper Transit V6 with single choke carb is less stressed than the Pinto

Nearly have some realistic mileage figures to put on. Is yours a twin wheel? I'm sure half the battle is my 5.13 diff. Thanks everyone for the figures I'll post ASAP as I have some figures, something tells me I won't be 35 though :/

I have the same issue with my diff but we only have one scrapyard on the Isle of Wight so it's a bit difficult to get hold of one

Mines a twin wheel tipper extended chassis and bed with a HIAB crane, winch, ramps, dropsides and scaffold frame. Hence why it weighs so much! I'm not sure what the diff is but it cruises at 80 no problem.
Its currently undergoing some major surgery weight loss and a facelift!

You must have a good ratio diff as I can't get mine above 50 with out the need for ear defenders , shame the 6 speed box won't fit
