Mines a twin wheel tipper extended chassis and bed with a HIAB crane, winch, ramps, dropsides and scaffold frame. Hence why it weighs so much! I'm not sure what the diff is but it cruises at 80 no problem. Its currently undergoing some major surgery weight loss and a facelift! Bloody hell 80!!?? Like bob dragon I'm lucky to see 50 down hill!! I wear push in ear defenders as a matter of course! My decible meter meter reads 94db at 45 mph with the windows closed!!! Are you sure you have a Di and mt75 5 speed, sounds more like V8 power haha. You must have the 4.67 diff, if I attempted 80 I think the engine would disintegrate by 65-70! What tyres are you running assuming your on the 14" rims?

The diff you need is a 4:63' my crewcab spec was Di with mt75 and 4:63 diff. I could get 80 easy and still get 28 mpg towing. There are noisy and quiet di's it's a matter of luck but I have found the Bosch pumped pencil injector ones are noisier than the old CAV set up

The Di it's self is not horrendous, not much louder than a Landrover 200tdi. My problem is sound deadening or complete lack of it haha and also the rpm reduction would help massively to. Well things are looking up, I was becoming disillusioned with the van. Using her as my daily has been getting teadious I've even turned down jobs due to the distance issue. So is a 4:63 easy to find? Is it a specific mk2 diff of would a layer smiley diff fit? I suppose a complete axle could be the route to follow?

From my understanding a 4.63 is most common in a 6 stud single wheel axle , which would mean changing the crown wheel and pinion . I'm also told the mk6 upto 2006 internals will fit ( none Danna) this opens up even more ratios I believe . If you find more than one let me know :-)

I'm not sure what diff I have, the tyres are standard fitment. the turbo di is nowhere near as noisy as the NA, also the previous owner fitted extra soundproofing in the cab and on both sides of the bulkhead and underside of the bonnet. he used it for delivering machinery and plant gear up and down the country.
I generally drive it around (well drove it around as its in bits currently!) at 60-70mph as it returned best mpg and felt comfortable (thats gps speed as the transit clock shows whatever the hell it feels like)

I was interested in the decibel levels so i downloaded an app for the phone too, at about 50 its showing 82db in mine with no sound proofing other than the headlining and a wooden bulkhead.
