Hi...
I'm new to this exciting and interesting forum and ready to learn all the tricks and bits to the MK1-MK2 transit vans.
Since the late 70s I've had a keen interest in these awesome vehicles with many family members and friends having owned
a variety of models.
* One of my uncles had a 1974 LWB high roofer with twin sliders and windowless rear twin wheeler in light blue. It was a V4 version
and was used to cart produce, then sold to a fish shop in 1980 where it lasted two years before the cancer spread to the body
and was then scrapped.
* another uncle had a mid 70s shorty again with twin sliders and windowless. I believe it had a 250ci ford 6cyl and 3spd manual
and in 1985 was destroyed in a prang.
* In 1980, my next door neighbour had a 69 flat nose shorty (MK1 I believe) lowered with mags, huge sliding sunroof, the
windowless rear was decked out in crushed velvet with sound systems, bed n bar and sported a hemi 245 6cyl engine.
It was rolled a year later and sent to the scrapper.
The next couple of decades had me wondering what ever happened to the great vanning era that had crazed every part of the
globe, and where are they now? Why was something so damn good so short lived and if everyone is so fond of those vanning
day memories, will they ever be re-created?
Without many leads or traces of what once was, back in 2007 I took to the spanners to create a piece of motoring history of my
own and make my mark on a prototype that FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles Australia) could have built, had Ford Australia handed
them a Transit van or two to play with.
My tester to see if i'm capable enough before I do a MK1 was to design a more modern transit project and see how I go.
This is what I came up with....
Having completed my first transit project, im now searching...looking...hunting and determined to find a windowless MK1 shorty with twin sliders.
Any tranny owners here in straya with a lead to my next purchase will be rewarded and greatly appreciated
I have BIG plans
