Hello everyone! We're new here having just bought 'Lady Edith', a 1981 Mk2 campervan from a lovely couple. She's very much original inside and while we love that and want to tinker as little as possible, we just don't think we will use the gas fridge, which takes up so much space. Would it be dreadful to remove it? Is it relatively easy to do? We imagine making more storage in its place. Any thoughts and ideas welcome, it's nice to have a forum where we can ask for advice - we've got lots more questions but this is the first thing we need to decide whether to do or not. Thanks!

I would keep the fridge otherwise you'll end up filling a couple of cool boxes with stuff you want to keep cold (will only keep cold for a few hours on a hot day) and they will end up getting in your way. so I would keep it

Hi,welcome along!,agree with previous comments, would keep the fridge, converted my Van to camper and the most used thing whilst away has been the fridge, used more than hob, sink etc(usually end up using facities on sites etc for water),hob for coffee more than anything else, fridge for food, always needed!.would even say if it's gas only possibly update to 2/3way,but not loose,if you intend using it as a camper you'll find it a godsend,it's the one thing even on good sites you'll need your own,let alone when not using them.

Welcome along Dutch, a storage area for food and drinks could work, maybe even keep them chilled while you travel...ooh most of all do what you want to and enjoy

Welcome to the forum, how big is the existing fridge? I would try and keep one in a camper but if it is massive just fit a smaller one. It gets quite expensive running a fridge on gas only too.

How about using a chest cooler mounted on a couple of runners? Mine is three way and is an absorbtion system. Personally I'm not in favour of a gas flame so I use in 12 volt mode but will use on gas if stationary for a while. Not having a compressor does mean it takes longer to cool down but draws less. Good idea to chill food first or I run on 240v overnight before needed to give it a good chill. It is easy to remove for camping, boating etc. Being a chest the cold air doesn't fall out when you open the door www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/261207176553?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107&chn=ps

Welcome mate! I would keep the fridge too. Oh and we need pictures! To post them you need to upload them to a host. The instructions are at the top of the gallery sections.

Hi Having chucked our gas fridge away, i would say don't do it. Got a second battery with cig lighter attached to run an electric coolbox/fridge thing... its quite annoying when it falls over and throws milk all over the shop.

Ya, those handbrake turns may be required with plod on your tail but they don't arf curdle the milk!
Is "plod" a derogatory term over there? Apologies if so.
