Ideas required for a couple of odd noises I've had on the van for ages but not been able to identify. Both are only audible from the drivers seat, getting out and listening under the bonnet you can't hear them, both seem to be coming from the speedo/ servo area. From cold start there's a squeak/ squeal almost like a slipping alternator belt - it's not slipping though - doesn't change with revs or electrical load, in or out of gear stationary or rolling, clutch up or down makes no difference, goes away after a short while. On start up, hot or cold, there's a tap/ rattle like tappet or starter running on and staying engaged, doesn't change with revs though, valve clearances are fine, I bump started it one day and it did it so I guess that rules out a sticky starter. Again you can't hear it under the bonnet. Goes away after a while.
Any guesses?

Could the squeak be the alternator bearings?

It's a newish one and it did it before it was changed too, fitted a new water pump as I thought it might have been that but no difference other than curing a slight water leak.

Could it be the servo as the vacuum builds up?

Could it be the servo as the vacuum builds up? I did wonder that, pressing the brake pedal doesn't make a difference to the sound
