Figured it may be worth posting up a few handy how to's hints tips and tricks etc, even if you think it may be a little like trying to teach an old dog new tricks, post em up and see how you go!
I will start with my pet hate, bodgetastic electrics!
twisting wires together and wrapping in electrical tape does not count as a repair! Ideally you should use solder and heat shrink.
Connectors should either be proper connector blocks or crimp terminals (properly crimped with the correct tool not pliers) Do not use scotch blocks, chocolate blocks or any other type of household connector!
Use the correct size cable for the job, using speaker wire to run a fan is not really good enough lol

For a quick cheap wd40 substitute mix 50/50 oil and diesel or parrafin, good for loads of stuff!
